Go slow to go fast
Moving fast doesn't need to break things
We had a saying in the military that comes originally from Ju-Jitsu.
Slow is smooth and smooth is fast.
It’s a maxim about the relationship between quality and speed that has universal application, especially to software development.
In a world where “move fast and break things” is celebrated, we really should take a second to reflect.
Stop. Breathe. Look. Think. Do.
If you rush things you’ll inevitably make mistakes. If you’re making mistakes you’ll have to spend time fixing errors and redoing work. And time spent on rework is time not spent moving forward.
So focus on quality of execution first. Do the right thing and do it right.
Pretty soon you’ll be moving faster than when you were breaking things.
